Children & Youth Sunday School

We believe that laying a solid foundation for children and youth is vital for their spiritual formation. One avenue we use to disciple children and youth is through our Sunday School Program. Through our time on Sunday morning, we join in singing, memorizing scripture, and having an age-appropriate curriculum for all children and youth. We believe that these classes help us to disciple young people and lay a solid foundation for them to build on later in life.

Student Ministry

Student Ministry Pastor: Richard Slaughter

Who are we?

Koinonia Student Ministry is the ministry of First United Methodist Church to Students in 6th-12th Grades

The Greek word "koinonia" means fellowship or life together. Paul uses it in the New Testament to refer to the family-like ethic of the early church. That is what we hope to recreate in this student ministry. We want to be a group that shares in life together and becomes a family, loving each other and the world around us as daughters and sons of God, saved and set free by the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The main verse that refers to koinonia is in Acts 2:42 where it says that the church "devoted themselves to the Apostle's teaching, the fellowship (koinonia), the breaking of bread, and prayers." This verse is what defines our group. We are devoted to learning the Scriptures, loving and supporting each other, worshipping and remembering Christ's sacrifice for us, and praying for each other and our world.

When and where do we meet?

Sundays in our Youth Room!

Junior High (Grades 6-8) @6:00 p.m.

What is our mission?

Our mission as a church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Through Koinonia, our hope is that students will grow in their faith and knowledge of Christ in our weekly gatherings and that they would put that faith into action through launching out into missions work. We do this through annual mission opportunities here in our community as well as mission trips throughout the United States.

How do I get involved?

Join us at any of our gatherings listed above. If you need more information or have any questions please contact Richard through the church office.

Children's Choir

Children's Choir Director: Judy Henderson

We believe children can learn what it means to be a Christian disciple through music! Our volunteer leaders have organized children's choirs for pre-school children, through the fifth grade. They perform musicals for the congregation twice a year: a Christmas musical in mid-December and a Spring special on Mother's Day.

Performances are at 5:00 p.m. on these two Sundays. A snack supper follows in the fellowship hall.

Many in the community find this to be an inspiring moment of worship every year!
